if you're like me, you're still reeling from last week's episode of The Vampire Diaries when Elena and Damon finally locked lips. So, when a recent tabloid report claimed that Nina Dobrev turned down a proposal from her co-star and real-life boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder, I was seriously distraught. These two are adorable together both on and off-screen, so the idea that these two were having any sort of relationship problems was almost too much to bare. But not to worry because both actors have now spoken out about the gossip and deny that the rumored incident ever took place. Whew!

Dobrev talked to Access Hollywood about the engagement rumors and said, “I’d heard some crazy story that I’d been proposed to, but I would be wearing a ring if I had one,” adding that the story was "not true at all." And while Somerhalder did not in fact propose to her, Dobrev revealed that she's not looking to settle down anytime soon and remains focused on her career. The starlet commented, “It’s not like back in the day where you have to get married and have your children by 18,” Nina said. “I’m a career woman and a young, very driven woman and I’ve got a lot I have to accomplish before I settle down and have kids and do any of that.”

Additionally, Somerhalder himself laughed off the story that he had proposed and been turned down, saying, "It's not true. If it were true, I would admit to it, ‘cause getting turned down builds character!” Either way, we're just happy all is right between the two of them. It doesn't matter if they're engaged, as long as they're still together.

Now let's get back to obsessing over their on-screen relationship, which will hopefully only continue to get steamier! A new episode airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the CW.
