How to cook an easy chocolate cake recipe

Using a Whisk blend together the margarine, vanilla essence and sugar until light and fluffy.

Separate the egg yolks and egg whites.

Add the two egg yolks to the butter and sugar cake mixture along with half of the self raising flour, mix well.

You will be left with a thick textured cake mixture.

Add the rest of your flour, mix well.

Take a small pan and fill with water just under half way.

Warm the water up and simmer.

Place a little bowl on top of the pan and place your chocolate pieces into the bowl.

The chocolate will gently melt.

In a separate mixing bowl whisk up the two egg white until is starts to froth.

Add 1 Tbsp of powdered sugar and whisk until the egg whites become thick and have firm peaks when you lift the whisk from the mixture.

The chocolate should be melted by now.

Take the chocolate off the heat.

Take the whipped up egg white mixture and pour it into the cake batter mixture.

Fold the egg whites into the cake mixture.

Fold by moving the spoon over and under the mixture rather than just stiring in circle motion.

Make sure the egg whites are thoroughly mixed in well.

You will be left with a cake mixture that is pale and a lot more loose in texture.

Pour the melted chocolate into the cake mixture.

For a full chocolate cake mix the melted chocolate well, for a slight marble effect only mix the chocolate a little, for a full marble effect only stir the spoon across once or twice.

Pour into a greased and floured cake tin.

Very gently make the chocolate cake even with a spoon.

Place into a hot oven at 175C for 30-40 minutes depending on the heat of your oven.

To check if the chocolate cake is cooked insert a skewer through the centre of the cake, if it comes out clean it is fully cooked.

When the chocolate cake is cooked leave it to cool a little in its tin.

Take the cake from the tin and leave to cool on a rack.

If you desire slice the edges of the cake to produce a clean cut square chocolate cake.

To make the butter cream just take a little vanilla essence, corn starch, butter and keep adding enough powdered sugar until the butter cream is of the sweetness that you enjoy.

You can add cocoa powder or melted chocolate to this mixture if you like.

Slice the cake in half and fill with butter cream.

Always make sure that the chocolate cake is fully cooled before slicing and adding any creams.
